A Rugby 2009 3rd Placing: ACS(I) vs SAJC

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) outclassed St. Andrew’s Junior College when they beat them 22-0 in the play-off for third placing at the Schools National A Division Rugby tournament on 12 May 2009.

ACS(I)'s Colin Lee converted a penalty in the fifth minute of play to take them 3-0 up, a scoreline they maintained till half-time. But in the second half, ACS(I) stamped their superiority.

Receiving the ball on the left, Alex Chung took it over the tryline in the first minute of play. Before the Saints could even recover, ACS(I) scored its second try 2 minutes later.

Cavan Ho sprinted away, leaving his opponents in his wake as he crossed over the tryline for a touchdown. Colin Lee converted the try.

Five minutes later, ACS(I)’s Alex Chung got his name inscribed on the scoreboard again when he foiled two Saints' players with a meandering run en route to the third try. Colin Lee again sent the ball through the uprights.

Said Alex Chung, a year-six player who had just played his last match in the Schools National tournament: “We learnt from our mistakes in the last match (against ACJC) and reverted back to the basics of playing.

"In the first half, we couldn’t convert our opportunities. There was better communication between the forwards and backs in the second half. We kept the ball in our possession, set it up before attacking in the wings.”

Said Cavan Ho, a year-five player: “We have done well in our last match of the season and will do a lot better next season.”
