ACS(I) B Rugby Final 2009
Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)’s impressive winning streak in the 2009 Schools National B Division tournament came to an end when St Andrew’s took home the Police Cup with a 17-10 win at the Padang on 22 April 2009.
St Andrew’s took an early lead when Khor Jia Jun scored a try in the 3rd minute. The stunned ACSians were however quick to level the score.
Receiving a pass from teammate Marah Ishraf, ACS(I)’s Mohamed Nazryn ran past a maze of Saints before grounding the ball on the right of the try area.
But Saints shot to the lead again in the 15th minute when Nicholas Yau scored for them.
Eight minutes later, ACS(I)'s Joshua Quek charged towards the Saints' 10-metre line before passing the ball to teammate Marah Ishraf.
Marah made no mistake as he sprinted away from an oncoming player and carried the ball some 40 metres before diving for a touchdown to draw ACS(I) level again.
The score at half-time stood at 10-10 from the two tries scored by each of the teams.
Saints returned strongly in the second half to take the lead through a 9th minute try by Ahmad Ibrahim.
Saints' Teng Chong Yao made the first successful conversion in the match for St Andrew’s to lead 17-10.
Thereafter, the ACSians threw everything they had at the Saints’ team but St Andrew's held their ground.
ACS(I)’s Marah Ishraf said: "We didn’t expect the game to turn out this way. We outran their backs but their forwards had the edge over ours."
Added Mohamed Narzyn, who was named ACS(I)’s B Divison Player of the Season: "Saints had most of the possession and they kept putting on the pressure. We did what we could but they were the better team today."
